What is the difference between behavior modification and Obedience?
Obedience commands teach a dog to "obey". "sit", "down", "stay", "come".
Behavior modification is just that. The dog digs in the yard, you redirect the digging and "modify the behavior"
Dog has learned to run from you, you teach it not to run from you, you modify the behavior
Dog jumps on you, you redirect the energy so that he does not jump on you, you modify the behavior.
These are just a few behaviors you might want to modify.
Prevent behavior problems before they start.
TIP: CRATE TRAIN your puppy/dog!
BE AWARE: If you decide on a "Rescue Dog/puppy". Your dog may have "issues" that need special help. It may take 6 months to a year for you to see the full potential of your dog. You may need to "undo" some bad behavior. Remember - Patience is a virtue) If you need info, call us. Some information is universal, some depends on the dog, the environment etc and a consultation is in order, Obedience training is ALWAYS necessary for a well behaved dog and will also help him bond and adjust to his new environment.
TIP: If you obtained your dog from a breeder, find out as much as you can about how he has been housed, fed, (Schedule, outside, inside, crate training if any etc.) Health testing if it is a purebred dog. Puppies can begin training when you bring them home. After they have had all their shots they are ready for group classes. or private lessons.
Puppies can learn to sit, down, come, walk on a leash, wait at doorways and more before the are 5 months old. These two brothers were doing good after just one week of training.
